Sam Cowley on the BVAA Future Leaders Programme

Colson Valves' Sam Cowley receiving the peer voted Session 1 award at the BVAA Future Leaders Programme opening session in Banbury

Investing in people is easy to say and harder to demonstrate. Nominating our very own Sam Cowley for the BVAA Future Leaders Programme is one way we’re doing it.

The FLP is the British Valve & Actuator Associations flagship leadership development programme – now in its tenth year, with over 60 graduates across the industry. It brings together talented individuals from across the UK valve and actuator sector for roughly 20 days of development over the course of a year, covering everything from technical and commercial training to visits to refineries, manufacturing centres and engineering sites. Delegates who complete the programme receive a formal qualification accredited by the Chartered Management Institute.

Sam is part of Cohort 9, which kicked off at BVAA HQ in Banbury in late February. The opening session included psychometric profiling, a programme overview, and a full personal development day focused on presenting – five recorded presentations, peer feedback after each one, with genuine progress expected and visible by the end.

Sam came away with the peer-voted Session 1 award for most improvement shown over the day. It’s voted for by fellow cohort members, so the recognition means a great deal.

There’s plenty of the programme still to come, including the next session in Bath. We’ll be sharing updates as the year progresses.
