Woodside Energy is Australia’s largest independent oil and gas company and a top-10 global independent energy producer, supplying LNG, crude oil and pipeline natural gas from its Perth headquarters.
Seatrium holds the contract with MODEC Management Services, operator of the Pyrenees Venture FPSO on Woodside’s behalf. The 2026 dry dock project covers major maintenance and life extension work on the vessel at Seatrium’s Singapore shipyard, including overhauls, upgrades and water treatment enhancements.
The replacement valve they needed had to match the face to face of the unit already installed: 268mm, specific to the original manufacturer. Alongside that, the requirements were:
Double block and bleed valves are built to each manufacturer’s own face to face dimension, and that dimension varies across the industry. A standard-length replacement from another manufacturer won’t fit the space left by the original. The contractor is then left moving pipework to accommodate it: cutting, re-engineering the layout, additional welding, and the manpower, time and welding qualifications and certifications that go with it. On a live dry dock schedule, that’s a costly and lengthy detour.
Colson designed the replacement to the existing 268mm face to face, so it dropped straight into the space left by the original manufacturer’s valve, without any pipework alterations or additional welding, and without delaying the schedule. Beyond the retrofit dimension, Colson also delivered:
Seatrium received a valve built to fit the installation it already had, on time and to specification, without the cost and disruption of adapting the pipework around a standard-length replacement. Colson Valves designs and manufactures instrument ball, needle and check valves and manifolds, and double block and bleed valves from ½” to 8″, including exotic materials such as Duplex, Super Duplex and Alloy 625/825. Every valve is designed, machined, assembled and tested under one roof at our Rotherham facility, with full EN10204 3.1 material traceability.
